Introduction
This hub is a guide on how to beat the Archfiend Baramos in Dragon Quest IX, where he appears as a legacy boss. If you have arrived at this hub, then there's a strong chance that you're stumped on how to beat Baramos. Feel free to read my article on grotto exploring before you get your feet wet here, as Baramos is a lot tougher than your regular grotto bosses.

Suggested Party Setup
You're going to want your party members at around level 50, as a bare minimum, preferably with some levels in other vocations as well. My first hub in this Legacy Boss Hunter series gives you the recommended party setup and their roles, as well as my party member's stats as well.
Here, I'm going to touch on what items you should have in each party member's bag. I personally recommend each character hold 3 Magic Waters and one Yggdrassil Leaf. if you can double these amounts (especially in the case of those Leaves, which are pretty rare), I suggest you do so. You'll need the MP and you'll need to revive people without worrying about Zing's fail chance (such as in cases where you've lost 2 party members in one round or some other drastic situation like that.).
You want your Paladin to have the book you get for completing the 100 Shield Quest (kill 10 Killing Machines with Blockenspiel). Whoever has the book in his/her inventory auto-blocks critical hits, and since Baramos loves those and your Paladin is supposed to tank...
On a similar note, you want your healer to have a Wand equipped. I stress this all the time, but it's that important. The MP difference if you don't have a Wand over longer battles is too drastic.
Baramos' Loot
Well, I'm sure everyone is curious as to what Baramos drops. Well, it depends on his level:
- Level 1: Mini Medal (100%), Aliahan Boots (20%), Silver Orb (2%)
- Level 8: Mini Medal (100%), Aliahan Boots (25%), Silver Orb (~2%)
- Level 9-15: Mini Medal (100%), Aliahan Clothes (20%), Silver Orb (~3%)
- Level 16: Mini Medal (100%), Murdaw's Map (10%), Silver Orb (~3%)
As his level goes even higher, the chances of Map and Orb drops are increased.
Baramos' Battle Strategy
The Archfiend Baramos is a monstrous wizard of great renown who starred as Dragon Quest III's first final boss (the other one being Zoma, who you fought about a dozen or so hours later in another castle.). In this game, he serves as your first taste of a Legacy Boss. All of the following are tidbits and facts I've picked up over the course of my failed attempts of beating this boss, which I finally overcome as recently as yesterday:
- Kafrizz: Does 150-170 (spell) fire damage to one party member.
- Kaboom: Does 130 (spell) damage to the whole party.
- Blazing flames: Does 130-150 (breath) fire damage to the whole party.
- Physical attacks do 130 damage to a character with 270 Defense.
- Critical attacks do 340-380 damage.
- A Warrior with 386 Attack does about 86 damage to Baramos with a regular physical attack.
- A Minstrel with 293 Attack does about 43 damage to Baramos with a regular physical attack.
- He can attack twice a turn, but doesn't always do so.
As for his battle strategy, he'll use spells with reckless abandon, to the point that he'll even try to Kafrizz someone who has used Magic Mirror within the last 3 turns (is he blind? :P). If you're at a particularly low level, you might want to use this to your advantage and use Magic Mirror on your whole party to have him defeat himself (worked for me!).
His common attack patterns include:
- Critical attack, then Kaboom.
- Critical attack, then action skip.
- Kafrizz, then Kaboom (I pity the party member who got Kafrizzed if he/she didn't have Magic Mirror up.)
- Physical attack, then physical attack again (rare attack pattern).
- Critical attack, then critical attack (thankfully rare; totally stinks when he does it though).
- Blazing flames, then Kaboom (he tends to alternate between this and the spell blitz attack patern up at the third bullet; these are his two most common attack patterns.)
Conclusion
Now that you have this knowledge, I urge you to go defeat him! You might want to gain more levels than what I suggested in my other hub, but you know from my experience that it's beatable at the levels I did it (just a BIT tough. ;P).

Sage dies to critical.

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up on this ... after you have beaten Baramos for the first time, he will ask you for the experience from the battle. Do not give it to him as is will increase Baramos to level 2... and that dont sound so tough till you realize you wont beat him again till around level 75 with three level 60+ backing you. Just use the level 1 Baramos and keep the exp for your self till you get tougher. I made3 the mistake of giving him the EXP i got the first time I killed him and it was a HUGE mistake.

I was thinking of adding that and the possible drops at a later date (still missing Baramos' third drop, and I'm OCD about being as complete as I can. :D).
(For those curious at the moment, he drops Aliahan Boots as his second drop at a 20% chance of doing so. He still drops a Mini Medal in that case.)
I didn't know Baramos got such a huge power boost in one level. Since my characters aren't even in their 50s yet, I was holding off from giving him the experience.
my team has my character level 99 warrior a level 72 warrior a level 70 priest and a level 54 paladin and i have no problems with anyone dieing due to the fact i give my team mirror armor to deflect most of his magic attacks
and i forgot to add that i also kileed him 10 times at level 4 while i was level 70 to get levels up and it managed to work for me :)

It only gets nasty if Baramos starts spamming critical hits, but Sage's Kazing goes a long way towards helping out. :D
What are the stats on your level 99 Warrior anyways? :D
strength: 504 agility: 228 resilience: 600 deftness:181 charm:109 magic mending: 230 magical might: 30 max. HP:850 max . MP: 116 attack: 590 defence:778 style: 400 all the stats on my warrior
i also have 100% in swords, shields, courage, wands, faith, claws, guts, hammers, axes, fource and bows
o and i have also managed to get my team up in levels since last post they are now:
me level 99 warior (still)
level 82 warrior
level 78 priest
level 59 paladin
and can kill baramos without anyone going lower than 50 health (still havent died against him yet) so i think i must be one lucky person lol XD

I just got the Armamentalist vocation (couldn't be bothered to get it before), so I'm going to get some cheap levels to get some bonus skill points.
My most developed role is actually my Sage. I have her getting bonus points in Spellcraft.
I found out I have to get 100 points in Fans so I can use Reverse Cycle to blow back Baramos' breath attacks. My tank so needs that. :S
She has 23 skill points saved up, so those other 77 could take a while...
(Just for the record, my Minstrel and Warrior are male and my other two are female. :P)
all my characters are male lol and i have got 100 skill points free on my character but still cant decide where to put them lol
and what armor does your warrior ministrel and paladin wear when you fight baramos becuase i use the upgrade from mirror armor (cant remember the name at the moment) so that gives me a chance to send back 3 of his spell attacks which for me works well i managed to deflect 5 spells in 3 turns which made me kill him in 6 turns lol :)
and it really works great when he goes heywire because he hits himself for about 200 damage per deflect :)
My Warrior and Minstrel wear Catroptic Armor (that's the name you're looking for; it's the golden Mirror Armor upgrade). ;)
My Paladin wears Sacred Armor for the life regen.
For spell deflection, I use Magic Mirror on all of my characters.

my baramos is level 4 and not going to level him anymore yet because he is great for mini medal farming because i can kill him in 6 turns and for every 15th mini medal i get i use on orichalcum for armor and weapons etc at the moment i have killed enough time to get 10 orichalcums so that 150 times if my math is correct lol xP man i spend to much playing this game i wonder if i put this much effort into my college work i might get an A in everything lol XD
does anyone know if map level drops are actually random or drop around the level you are because i keep getting level 60 - 70 maps and my team is:
level 99 warrior ( me and still)
level 91 warrior
level 85 priest
level 65 paladin
i would understand the maps of level 60 - 70 for me paladins level but doesnt the rest of the team affect the maps level seen as there levels are much higher?
Oh, I know the feeling man. I graduated not too long ago and have a Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology, but yeah I always put more effort into my videogames than my studies. Still graduated with a 3.66 GPA though. :D
Anyways, back to the game:
As far as I know, map drops are randomly leveled, but scaled to your party's level, or should I say the average of your party's level. So 99+91+85+65 = 340. We average it, and get a result of 85. It's quite possible to get maps lower than your party's average level though. In practice, it's actually very hard to get a high-leveled map, even if your whole party is full of 99's.
(The actual formula for map levels is messy and somewhere on the net; I don't know it by heart. :P)

I still need help fighting Baramos and i dont have high levels, 51 gladiator, 51 warrior, 51 priest and 33 mage. do u reccomend leveling up? if u guys help a lot i might be able to give u some tips. :)

Next, I'm going to recommend you get Magic Mirror on all of your characters. It's part of the Shield skill tree; you'll need 100 skill points for each character that wouldn't be able to use a shield normally. In your case, your Gladiator would need to max out the shield tree to be able to use a shield. Anyways, Magic Mirror bounces back all hostile spells for several turns.
Also, go to Swinedimples Academy and do the Shield quests so you can get the book that gives a character immunity to critical hits when equipped with a shield (equip this on your tank or your healer).
Lastly, your Mage could use some levels. Your other characters are fine. :)

and level 69 paladin
and the map levels have gone from 60 - 70 from 70 - 90 i have found 16+ level 70 - 80 maps now and 4 maps level 80 - 90
that should say level 89 priest lol got bit carried away writing warrior lol xP :)

He's on the first floor of the academy. He's one of the instructors that shows up after you beat the ghost haunting the academy. His name is Buckler if I'm not mistaken. :P

i have almost gotten all my team to level 99 now apart from my paladin whos level 70ish and my baramos is at level 4 and i can kill him in 6 hits do you think i should level him up a few or wait for my paladins level to go up first?
Noah do you use catropic armor on any of your characters?
and at the levels you are i would concider haveing at least 2 of your team members hold a yggdrasil dew to heal the whole party when things get bad and also do you have the warriors handbook? it helps me alot when fighting baramos with countering his physical attacks and the catropic armor with deflecting spell attacks
o and also another thing that helps me is that i have whipping boy ability on my paladin and my 2 warriors so if one of my team is close to dieing i protect them and then get a heal in so they dont die

Worst case scenario is that your Paladin keeps getting stomped once you level up Baramos. If that happens, just go grind metal slimes or something for a while. But, with 3 level 99's I don't see that happening. :D

You need one Yggdrasil Leaf and one Elfin Elixir to create Yggdrasil Dew via alchemy. :)

royal soil: mad moi at zere rocks, drastic drackel at womwood canyon i think (near light bridge) there a little patch north west of porth llaffen and alos north of batureg above where the boys(chiefs of batsureg) mum is burried

hey does anyone know a way i can raise my teams attack other than egg on and gritty ditty? because know i have learnt gritty ditty i have baramos defeated in 3 turns and hes now level 5 :)
Mage's and Armamentalist's Oomph.
Psyche Up (which is pretty much a self Egg On)
Double Up (part of the Guts skill tree). Increases your attack by a lot, but reduces your defense a little as well.
Those are all the ways I've discovered myself. :P
thanks i was hoping there was another thig like gritty ditty because i use my spuishy priest to use gritty ditty and then get my warriors and paldin to attack before a monster can use disrupt
so thigs like psyhe up dont really do any good if it just gets disrupted straight after ive used it xP
o and for anyone who doesnt know when baramos gets to level 8 he learns disrupt which can get really annoying at times xP

i know this has nothing to do with baramos but does anyone know how to get the kawasaki locker map? i have been looking all over google etc and cant find out how to get it all i find is information of drops from the treasure chests and stuff like that not how to obtain the map :( can anyone help me please?.. :(

To find the Kawasaki Locker Map, you need to find someone who has it and Tag them. :P
Might have to fly to Japan to get it. (It's a map some lucky Japanese player got randomly). Or, pray you're so lucky yourself to get a map like that. :P
(The chances for such a map to turn up randomly are almost stupidly low, according to someone who mathed it out).

Yep. The Kawasaki map is just a regular level 60-70ish map that has Metal King Slimes all over the last (non-boss) floor. That's why it's so coveted. :P
My party at the moment is:
Minstrel 55
Warrior 55
Paladin 50
Sage 50
My Baramos beating record is 14 turns though. Considering I spend 2 turns preparing my tank every 6-7 turns... XD
my 2 warriors are level 99
my priest is level 99
and my paladin is now level 80
and my baramos record is now 3 turns and hes level 8 so im going to level him till it atleast takes me about 7-8 turns to kill him lol :)
o yer and what gear do your characters have? because i have got the erdrick's helmet and shield and they boost me up loads they are a serious item to get in my opinion they made baramos's hit level go from 24 to 4 - 6 damage on my main character just by putting them 2 items on him :p :

No there quest items quest 49 "Rock on!" you get from a boy in zere rocks he gives you a rusty shield as a reward use 1 oricalchum 9 glass frit and the shield to make erdrick's shield and and rusty helm you get from 40 + medals given to the pirate in dourbridge use 1 oricalchum and 9 glass firt and the helm to get erdrick's helmet there is also a sword but i dont remember where to get it but i dont personally use it i use uber falcon blade with my 3 attackers :)

OMG! i am so lucky i got a silver orb drop from baramos and a pair of aliahan boots and then it said my character managed to steal a silver orb and a pair of aliahan boots so i managed to get 2 silver orbs and 2 aliahan boots :D
you dont have to get them but they have really helped me so i was just recomending them lol XD

Well I've written guides for half of the skill trees unique to each vocation. You can start out here:

In general, look for HP boosts. Those are always good. Afterwards, look around for Resilience boosts, as those add to your Defense. Besides that, if your Warrior doesn't have a critical hit move (for hunting Metal Slimes), that's always something good to invest in.
Does he have 100 in Shields?
my warrior has axe crit ability amd spear crit ability lol and as afr as i know he has all the resilience, strength and health boosts he can get all i think i have left to get is deftness, agility luminary and ministrel abilities and some weapons skills (knives, whips, fans and staffs)
and yer i got the shield ability to help me kill corvus killed him no problem when he couldnt crit me lol

Oh wait, Fans...get 100 in Fans so you can use Reverse Cycle if you want to make your Warrior a tank (you need to have a Fan equipped of course; Reverse Cycle reflects breath attacks).

Well, if you swap vocations your stats will go down (because you'd be dropping from 99 to 50), but you have so many levels in everything that I have a hard time seeing you losing a fight to anything soon. :P

damn this sage quest is hard i have to kill atlas with zam and its taking forever because if my other guys attack he will die and i wont get quest complete but my zam is weak and does about 35 damage max lol xP should of raised magic might a bit i think lol xP
Use Caster Sugar/Channel Anger and Egg On your Sage. Tension affects spells as well, as long as they have a magnitude.
For example, Frizz can be boosted via Tension because it does a certain amount of damage. Omniheal isn't affected by Tension (and won't remove it from your character if used) because it always heals to full, regardless of your Magical Mending.
lol just killed him took me like 20 turns lol but i did it and finally got the 2 spells for price of one ability from sage book lol :)
lol on boss fights my priest can do a fair bit of damage now multithrust with spear does about half the damage my 2 warriors do lol couldnt even let him attack atlas xP
my character (warrior) 1000 - 1500
warrior 2 1000 - 1200
priest 500 - 700 damage (with spear)
paladin 700 - 1000 damage xP

Like I said, I'd write one about Murdaw but I haven't gotten his map yet. And, it's been far TOO long since I've fought Dhoulmagus in DQ VIII, and I haven't found his map in this game either so... :P
ah ok thanks for the info and also do you know where/ how i can get a greygnarl map? i have gone online and found people saying he appears in grottoes with these names ion them regardless of level of the map:
dread, hurt, gloom, doom, evil, ruin and death but all i can find is atlas and fowleye in everyone grotto i go in with that name :(

you can get a ydrigsels leaf on an island so their not rare. ive already got three and i am not far in the game.

ok now im little confused lol the site you sent me says any map level 58 - 99 can have greygnarl and then another site i found on google says only maps with dread, hurt, gloom, doom, evil, ruin and death in the name of the map regardless of level can have him in it... :(
any advice on what you think i should do or do both ( level 58 - 99 maps with tem names in them) ?
o and also does anyone know a site where i can find out release dates from the dqvc?

@Deargdoom: I don't know the specifics, but I think it has something to do with that. I know that if you connect with other players you can trade maps, but since I've never done it... :P
Perhaps those map names you mention only appear for maps of levels 58-99? :P

ok the name thing is rubish i have just found him in a grotto with its name is true and i think the level is true to because i found him in a level 80 grotto with the name doom in it :D and damn is he strong and he gets 3 turn to attack :(

o and when you get to murdaw he doesnt really do many magic attacks even when hes level 16 so i would advise just to wear sacrsanct and high level defence armor with him lol :) but dhoulmagus use's magic on like every attack xP

my character is level 50 in luminary and for me i think its a bit pointless but then again im more of a warrior/ gladiator type person and just as a tip noah when you get gladiator level to 40 and complete the quests you get a scroll that sometimes gives you an extra hit which is pretty good :)
o and also does anyone know where/how i can get metal slime armor? i dont get that haomi table thing so im not very good at timing treasure chests for items xP
Yeah, i agree that timing chests is really hard and i also stink at it. I also made the erdricks helm from what you said earlier, but where can u get glass frits quickly? Should i level up baramos to 2 or should i keep him the same? i also just got all 3 of his drops in one battle! :)

well in my opinion i would keep baramos at level 1 till all your group is atleast level 60 + to play it safe but if you like a risk then i say evel him lol :) and catholicon ring is in alchemy.
cathlicon ring = 1 rousing ring + 1 sober ring + 1 contra band.
rousing ring = 1 gold ring + 1 sleepy stick + 3 wakerobin.
sober ring = 1 gold ring + 1 sandstorm spear + 1 panacea.
contra band = 1 gold ring + 1 poison needle + 1 special antidote.
gold ring = stornway items shop
sleepy stick = batsureg weapons shop
wakerobin = bloomingdale items shop
sandstorm spear = alchemy ( 1 holy lance + 2 kitty litter + 2 glass frit) and i think its also buyable in bourbridge
panacea = alchemy ( 1 special medicine + 1 superior medicine + 1 moonwort bulb) and i think it can also be bought in some items shops.
poison needle = alchemy ( 1 magic beast horn + 3 manky mud) and i think it can be bought in bloomingdale at weapons stand.
special antidote = alchemy ( 1 antidotal herb + 1 medicinal herb) and can be bought in items shops.
and there is a spawn place for glass frit in djust desert(south west of gleeba palace), wyrmwing (cant remember where there but it says it in my items list and you can also get it from killing/ half inching cyclowns

@Noah: In response to your suggested party setup (OMG you guys filled up this comments section fast. XD):
I use a Paladin instead of a second healer. Once a Paladin gets Kerplunk, he/she can use all of his/her MP and HP to revive his/her three companions if dead. It's saved me when Baramos gets overeager (Level 16 Baramos) and knocks out two of my characters in one turn. Besides, if the AI could talk, it'd be pretty peeved that it was close to wiping out the party and then be stuck nearly at square one again. :P
With that said, thinking about making my main a Priest for Omniheal, but still not sure yet. :)
When does a paladin learn kerplunk, i have a level 30 ish paladin

It's the last spell they learn actually, and Paladins are the only class that can use it.
To clarify my previous comment on its effect, the Paladin sacrifices him/herself (and his/her MP) to revive all allies. So, if you have a Sage, you're one Kazing away from a full party again. :D

my priest has gritty ditty ability and also has 100 skill in virtue for more health and resiliance so he doesnt die in 1 - 2 hits
fight goes like this:
1. warriors and paladin falcon slash with uber falcon blades priest uses gritty ditty
2. warriora and paladin use falcon slash again with uber falcon blade priest uses gritty ditty
3. priest uses multithrust with spear, warriors and paladin use falcon slash with uber falcon blade fight won in 3 easy turns lol :)
(incase priest gets crit 2 times in a row or something silly everyone has whipping boy to protect him while he can use either omniheal to heal everyone or full heal on himself :) )
and winterfate i know have baramos level 16, murdaw level 16, dhoulmagus level 1 and dragonlord level 7
im working on leveling them up after i have gotten like every item i can get at there levels lol :) but i am mainly going to go for maps before levels lol XD thats why dhoulmagus is still level 1 because he doesnt drop a map at any level of his existance xP :)
@Noah: Sages learn Kazing at Level 45. Basically, to answer your first question, there are two publicly accepted strategies for beating down tough bosses:
Strategy 1: The one I use, which consists of a Paladin to tank, a healer (usually a Sage, but Priests are good for Omniheal), and a main damage dealer (usually a Warrior or Gladiator). In this strategy, your main character is usually stuck on Egg On duty, so his class doesn't matter much as long as it has good agility.
Strategy 2: BRUTE FORCE. This one is all about having 3 Gladiators brutalize bosses as fast as possible with a Priest using Omniheal. This one is risky but can get 2-3 turn kills. It's the faster of the two strategies.
So, essentially, you may come up with your own strategy, but those two are the ones that work for most people around the world. :)
Most important thing though is to have fun. As long as you're beating the bosses, it doesn't really matter how you're beating them does it? ;)

Sure, that'll work pretty well. :)
The most important part of the tanking strategy are the Paladin and the healer. Who you deal damage with is less important. In fact, you could even go so far as to use Mages for damage dealing, but then you'd be relying on MP instead of weapons.
Oh, and if you want to make your tank even better, get 100 in Fans on your Paladin so he/she can use Reverse Cycle (to reflect breath attacks).

If you've ever played Dragon Quest IV...Psaro is one of the hardest end-game bosses in all of Dragon Quest. :P

It depends on which of the seven forms you'd be fighting. In most other games he's appeared, he's dual wielding swords. That's not THAT hard. His final form is brutal though. :/

Try Alma Mater from the Priest skill tree. If I'm not mistaken, it protects from instant death attacks.

You're really racking up those maps. Soon you'll have all of them (except Zoma, since he's a Gamestop exclusive; you'd have to find someone who got him and Tag the map).
Alma Mater does stop instant kills, its in the priest ability tree, i have a level 73 priest. Do u guys think i should level baramos to 2 or keep him the same?
alma meter doesnt really work seen as it leaves you with1 health is whack hits and then you get attacked straight after so it sucks lol and zoma can be obtain through quest 167 or special event lol but every other legacy boss it says on iternet can only be obtained by tag or quests xP :( and i dont know any that i can tag :(
and if all your team is level 60 + then i say level level level lol XD i feel a little hyper tonight for some reason lol XD
@Noah: Chances are you're probably overleveled as it is. I would level him up a bit.
(However, get some Aliahan Boots off of him before he reaches Level 8, as his second drop changes to Aliahan Clothes at level 9 if I'm not mistaken. Same thing for the Clothes; get some of them before he reaches 16. Once he's level 16, he'll stop dropping Murdaw's Map at a 10% chance)

Second of all, judging by the high number Deargdoom gave, I assume you need a Wi-Fi connection and it's a downloadable quest. I don't have Wi-Fi at this time, so I can't confirm or deny this. :S
(Every quest after a certain number is download only, but the data is kept on their servers indefinitely so all you need to do is find a connection for one day and you'll get every quest that has been released for the game up to that week. :) )
quest 166 and 167 is a Wi-Fi quest that should be relesaed on the 24th of deecember if my calculations are right :)

o yer i got a great joke thats real listen to this:
i went to the hospital today to see a doctor who did an opperation on me to get rid of 2 brain tumors (the opp was in febuary and we are now in october) and i have been having migranes ever since the opp tell him about these migranes and some lumps on my head where the tumors were and he says o yer i forgot to tell you thats where i had to put a plate and drill 6 screws into your head to attach your skull back together after the opp on the tumors and that might be why you are getting migranes

As for those items: The Supernova Sword is a sub-ultimate weapon (Hypernova Sword is the ultimate weapon; you have a 10% chance to get one each time you craft a Supernova Sword; this is called an Alchemiracle and can be influenced with the Hoimi table). The Galaxy Axe is the ultimate axe.
I have no idea where the recipes for those weapons are though. Might want to look around Google. :P

The chance for an Alchemiracle is 10%. You have to figure out how you can get the table to land on a 10% square.
in the game it said it was a 20% chance of alchemiracle and the hoimi table as far as i know only works on boss monsters
Hmm, I thought the Table was an RNG exploit. If that's true, then it should apply to anything that drops an item, including alchemy.
I've never used the Hoimi Table, so I have no clue on how to use for Alchemiracles, but I've read that lots of people use it for that, so... :P

Heavenly helm = A godly guard against confusion, illusion, poison and death (whack etc) and it gives 50 defence
Legendary armour = Unparalleted protection that mends HP and MP merely by moving about. and it gives 100 defence

it does work on bosses but i think it make rthem drop there rarest drop e.g legacy bosses = orbs etc but i do know if you use thief coup de grace on greygnarl he drops dragonlord map

Well, 3 Warriors should be more than enough to power Baramos down, although you might want that Minstrel to be a Priest or Sage for the multi-character heals (Multiheal for both and Omniheal for Priests only). Let's just say I beat Baramos at level 1 with a level 40-ish party so, if anything, you're possibly overleveled. :)

If all else fails, you're going to have to go grind levels at the Bowhole (Liquid Metal Slimes appear there rarely).
Gaining levels in other vocations lets you use the skill points towards the trees in your primary vocation, which is how I invested most of the extra points I got.

Hey Winterfate I was just wondering what a reasonable turn time to beat Bramos is as I've said before I use a Gladiator(44), Paladin(53), Ranger(51) and Sage(39) team and I can beat Baramos in 12 turns using no items for MP regen, is this a reasonable turn time.
Also I'd like to know where to get other Legacy Boss maps

1.That is a good turn time for your team.
2.To get more legacy boss maps here are the ways:
1.Completing quests
2.Leveling up legacy bosses (e.g if you level Baramos up to lv16 and start beating him he will eventually cough up Murdaw's map.)
3.Defeating greygnarl in a grotto (this gets you a Dragonlord map eventually{then you have to lv him up to get another legacy boss map})

For your current party setup, 12 turns is okay. :)
My record is 5 turns, but I can defeat Baramos with a Warrior with two Falcon Slashes at 50 Tension, maximized attack (via Double Up) and equipped with a Falcon Blade.
That sort of setup takes quite a few skill points, so don't sweat it. As long as you're beating him, it's all good. :)

Well, TGTASC already told you some of them:
Baramos - You already have his map I would assume. :)
Murdaw - Beat Baramos at Level 16 or higher. Drop rate increases as Baramos' level increases.
Dragonlord - Beat Greygnarl until he drops it (5% chance).
Murdaw drops a map when he's level 16 or higher, but I have no idea what Legacy Boss it leads to. Generally, that trend of: "Beat Level 16 or higher boss to get the next map" happens a few more times.
There are a total of 12 Legacy Bosses if I recall correctly. :)
Darn I am still finding it immensely difficult to beat him.Any ideas for help?
Ok, let's see:
- Have you been grabbing HP boosts from other skill trees? These account for a ridiculous amount of Hit Points when you start getting enough of them.
- Does your Paladin have 100 Fans, Reverse Cycle and Magic Mirror? That allows him/her to use Forbearance to shield the rest of the party from Baramos' mass attacks.
-Your Paladin should also be equipped with the Shield book that you get for completing the 100 Shield Quest over at Swinedimples Academy. This prevents him/her from being hit by critical hits.
If you do all the above, you'll win. :P

2) A non-Paladin works as well. I'd recommend a Warrior as the second best option.
3) Equip it on your tank. If you don't want a tank, then equip it on your healer. Your healer getting knocked out by a lucky critical is one of the worst things that can happen in a tough boss fight.

I've done it in 4, but that involves Baramos helping you out by hurting himself with reflected spells and breath attacks. :D

As for how to get the 2% drop of a boss easily, you could try the Hoimi Table. I've never used it, but it's proven to work in both the Japanese and English versions of the game:

Slionhearts give WAY less experience than Platinum King Jewels:
Slionheart: 6200 EXP
PKJ: 240000 EXP
That means, ironically, that Slionhearts give less experience than Liquid Metal Slimes, and are a lot rarer as well.

cheers! ok, now go 2 internet images and type in blue jem slime and look in the picture with millions of slimes ! it will have 1 but i guess it is from an old game or different family like the man o war in twyll cave in the aquatic family not the slime family.
Rangers have the highest critical hit rate in the game, but I personally don't use them. With that said, if you want an extra healer and don't want a second Sage or a Priest, Rangers are probably the next best choice, precisely because of Moreheal.
My party is: Minstrel, Warrior, Paladin, Sage.
If you don't want another healer, you can try using another Gladiator. The more damage you do, the shorter boss battles become. :)

Well, the Rusty Shield quest is Quest 49. Here's a little info on it:

Hey, well you don't USE the books on someone, you just place it in his/her bag. Once the item is in the bag, he/she can use the ability the book gives. :)
As for the two Dazzle skills, I think they're equivalent. I've never used Dazzle, but if it's like older DQ games, then they both cause Blindness (or however the status is called in DQ). :)

Well, you can find a Wi-Fi Hotspot in each and every McDonalds, if you have any where you live.
Also, you don't have to pay money for any of those quests; you get those for free as they're released. One new quest is released every week. :)
Gladiators have the most attack of every class. After that, I'm not sure who's second best.

Well, you have to pay in gold for items you find in the DQVC.

Well, what kind of tips do you want? :)
In a very general sense:
- You want to have a healer in your party at all times. Early game this means a Priest. Later on, you can switch to a Sage if you desire.
- Get Psyche Up on all of your characters as soon as possible. Careful use of Tension is the easiest way to defeat most bosses.
- Err on the side of caution. It's better to have too many healing items in your characters' bags than to have too few, and lose a tough fight because of that.
- The best places to level up are the Bowhole/Realm of the Might (before you finish the game) and Slime Hill/certain grottos (after you finish the game).

Use zoom to zere rocks and look everywhere and you will find him.

metalslimecrazy: Well, I've heard that the hardest slime to find is Slionheart, but the one that gives the most experience is the Platinum King Jewel, which is pretty hard to find as well.
To find harder grottos, you need to level up your party. The higher your party, the better the maps that will drop from grotto bosses. :)

what i did woz battle liquid metal slimes and corvus over and over again till i woz high enough level.
also another hint is change your vocations and battl some monsteres to get more skill points aal the abilities you learn form that vocation will apply in the others

Yeah, Legacy Bosses get sick power boosts even after only one or two level-ups. If only the player characters worked the same way... :P
And, I've gotten a double drop before. Really rare. Congrats for that too. :)

Trust me I must have tried like 20 times and I can't beat him. He has a left claw, right claw and head and worst of all the claws have got like 3000 health and can cast Kazing!!!!! Oh and I'll tell you about him when I kill him.

Matt: I've been kind of busy so I haven't been able to post my party. My party's in their mid 50's right now and consist of a Priest, 2 Gladiators and a Sage.

Magic Barrier is the spell that improves your party's magic resistance for a few turns. Magic Mirror is the Shield skill that reflects enemy spells for a few turns, like the spell Bounce.
It is possible to kill him alone by mastering sheild, fan and a vocation which uses buff/kabuff Sage is for me.
Use magic mirror,reverse cycle and kabuff and he will DIE. If you were wondering my Sage lvl is 88.
Annoymous: That is a valid point. :)
The only problem there is once Baramos learns Disruptive Wave. One action invalidates all of your buffing spells. :(
There's quite nothing like making Baramos kill himself though. :D
Hey, you guys were talking about Baramos ownage in a certain amount of time?
I killed him in two turns. lol.
I had my old gladiator with 999 strength use psych up my main use egg on and my best friend joined me and used egg on too while my mage used sap. next turn my main used egg on on my gladiator, my friend used oomph on my gladiator, my mage used sap and my gladiator used falcon slash with uber flacon blade and one-shotted him.

Well, that's about as fast as he can be beat, unless someone finds a way to beat him on the first turn. :P
(Which should be possible, but only if you and three other friends you know all have Tension Saver and a physical attack class like Gladiators or Martial Artists. You save up the Tension from a previous, easy battle and then go to Baramos).

ive defeated baramos easily and it really isnt as hard as you make it out; ive nveer had any1 faint, and whenever there close to i always heal cus im faster especially with accelerate and if not paladin stops them dying. The party im using is lv 55 priest, lv 55 gladiator, lv 50 paladin and lv 49 mage at lv 4 baramos and hes still easy to beat.

Dude, with those levels, try out Baramos lv.99.
No offense, but none of the Legacy Bosses are even strong at the 4th level. Once they've got Disruptive Wave and healing moves, your team would be dead in one turn, no offense.

My minstrel has been all skill points possible in every vocation, and i mean EVERY vocation. and i've only unlocked the armamentalist lol. ACTION REPLAY ROCKS!!!

i cant beat baramos and ive got me a lvl 60 minstrel my warrior lvl 64 my thief lvl 63 and my crappy lvl 60 mage but he keeps killing my mage so i dont have a healer plus ive got 2 inferno blades and 3 sets of sancrsant armour
Hey its platinumkingjewel, user of this page for ages! You need some better classes. Try leveled up, heres what I used and beat first time!
Lv 99 Sage
Lv 99 Sage
Lv 78 Gladiator
Lv 99 Paladin.
I have levelled since then so when i battled him. my level was much more low, but try getting the twocus pocus abilaty from the supreme sage in gittingham palace, the supreme sage is by the bookcase in the gittinham palace and on his last quest, get the ability from him. Then put the book in your paladin and in battle make him use it on the two sages. As long as they have similaier agility, they should move one after the other and it will be Kazzammle x4 in a row, and it will build up until its damage x2! also, use some ability or spell to weakon his wound reppelness to magic.
As for the healer, just use your sages for a moreheal every so often. Another tactic is boost up your sages attack and spells, weakon baramos and then use your secons sage as a healer.
Check the weakness of your bosses online so that you know what would be better to use on them, fire, ice, purple darkness, wind, ect,ect. Keep your level up on your mage aswell, cause if there is an enemy weak to fire, then you can switch to your mage before the battle and you'll do more damage. For grottoes, use both sages and you'll get further. You can always use jacks knack to change vocation at the end of the grotto, if you have that ability. One more tip, use the magic hat or victorious armour, or its upgrade like i do glorious armour, so you can walk about the grotto casting spells in battles, and still regenerate the magic when walking. hey soz i wernet here be4, i have bling badger, what you need to do is to go to a water grotto with a high level, example, platinum waterway of death. it should have a keyword like: chasm or waterway in the middle of the grotto name, this shows that it is a water grotto, and the higher the level, the better chance of finding a bling badger. so basically find a grotto called : something waterway/chasm of doom or something like that.
so you should find a bling badger in:
emerald waterway of doom lv 89 , or
sappire chasm of ruin lv 78.
but remember it needs to be a fairly high, if not quite high level because they are high level monsters. if you find a bling badger, you should find on that very level, prime slime , mandrake monarch, boogie mangini to add to your monster list!!!
hey go to a water grotto with the words "chasm" or "waterway" in the middle because they live in high level water grottoes maybe over lv 70 as a guess.

Oh and if you want to train tons and invite weakling friends over go into lv77 caverns and you'll find slugly betsey,king metal slimes and golden slime stacks! But king metal slimes will give you a ton of exp but you'll need a axe man or a spear man or a guy with claws to us thunder thrust (for spear men) flailing nails ( for a guy with claws) and I forgot the ability for axe men/women. I tried beating Baramos with a level 99 Ministrel, Lv 77 Gladiator, Lv 84 Warrior, and a level 83 Warrior but still failed even though this was level 1. Does any of you know how much health he has and what his weaknesses are

thats cool! also to get platinumkingjewels - lol - go to ruins grottos cause that is were they are. they are the highesed experience in the whole game, more than MK slimes!!!! but also in the highesed grottoes ....... lol.

He is the weakest of the Legacy bosses but can kill you by using Kafrizz and Kaboom and can also use also fire breath and regular attacks (which can hit for about 100+ to everyone in your party, Can also Crit for 300+). Ice attacks are his weakness, but he resists wind and fire attacks. If someone in your party wields an axe, use a Helm Splitter, or a Sap spell These do no work on Baramos, Oomph the axe wielder, and use Parallax for a possibly 100 more points than a Kafrizzle. Also, you can beat him using paladin tank with magic mirror. Just don't forget to use insulate on him. let me check his lv 1 health... it should be on dragon quest wiki.com. lets see..... :))
